There was a fire outbreak in room S47,Saadu Zungur hostel block A. At about 11:30AM the serene atmosphere in the hostel was interrupted by sudden shouts of "fire! fire!!". Pandemonium broke out as the boys in the hostel rushed to the room with buckets of water to put out the fire.It took about twenty minutes and buckets of water to extinguish the fire.

The central circuit board in the block was switched off to reduce the risk of electrocution. After the room had cooled down, the boys trooped into the room to salvage belongings from the accident.Few minutes later, the hostel administrator and some security officers came around to inspect the room. They couldn't figure out what caused the fire outbreak but they suspected that an electronic gadget might have been left unplugged.
The room mates, who returned shortly after the arrival of the hall administrator, were questioned about the electrical appliances they possessed.None of them claimed to have any appliances prohibited by the school authority.

According to one of the room mates, "The only thing we plug here  is an extension board and nothing else". After several minutes of  futile attempts to sort out the cause of the accident, the hall administrator urged students to be careful with electrical appliances. He also warned that any student found with prohibited electrical appliances will be severely punished

ISSUE OF TRAFFIC JAM AT KABUGA

Written  by: RUQAYYA BELLO SALIM  SMS/10/MAC/00959

The issue of incessant traffic jam in kabuga metropolis has become an issue bothering the motorists. The situation has reached an extent whereby the road users find it very difficult moving from one point to another. Apart from the congestion aspect that kabuga is well known for, road users complain unnecessary traffic jam resulting from the motor park and school [NASSARA ACADEMY] that were recently constructed on the pavement of the road which initially were not characterized by traffic hold ups.

What remains peculiar with the road is the delay road users experience when passing through it.Infact when talking about the majority of the road users passing through kabuga junction, the students face the greater disappointment from the traffic jam.
Muhammad sani, a level four student of department of mass communication narrated that ”kabuga junction causes a lot of disappointment to students going from old site to new site and vice versa, in fact not only university students are being affected but also secondary, primary, and nursery students”. He added that “the moment it is 8:00am consider yourself dead if you are unable to pass the junction”

During the tenure of Mal.Ibrahim Shekarau, so many complaints were made by the citizens especially those who use the road frequently pleading to the government to dualize the road, but the dualization was not possible because the road is under the care of the federal government not the state government.

The road does not only cause traffic jam which inconveniences the road users but also causes accident which leads to loss of lives and properties. Furthermore this problem highly contributes negatively to public health due to emission of harmful gases [carbon monoxide] to the atmosphere.
Lives and properties have been lost; students have been reporting late to their classes, the atmosphere has been polluted all because of the traffic jam. The road being a busy road that leads to almost 8 districts is not supposed to be neglected by the government. The government should construct flyover, dualize the road or construct more roads that will lead to Gwarzo road.

CONTINOUS REACTION OVER WORST EVER RESULT AT BAYERO UNIVERSITY, KANO

Reported by ABUBAKAR ISAH SMS/10/MAC/00824

Bayero university Kano which is being seen as one of the best university not just in Nigeria but Africa at large recorded one of its worst ever result since its inception .

The 2010/2011 first semester result was being duly marked by each and every facilitator of the respective course and being assessed and released by the school management, but to my greatest surprise and dismay it seems to be one of the worst result the institution has ever recorded since its inception which was around 1970s.

Students of the institution as a result of these decided to put on all black wears to show their dismay. This happened just a day after the faculty of social and management sciences released its results. The result issue has become the most talked about in the institution which is the local community here in this context as well as being spread across the society at large. Students spread the news by informing parents, friends and well wishers about the result.

I wish to conclude that this issue of result has served as an eye opener for the serious ones to add more efforts in their studies in other to get better grades in subsequent semesters to come and hopefully the teachers would do more to ensure the success of the student and the institution as a whole

The students of Bayero University, kano (BUK) on Thursday expressed dissatisfaction over their first semester results released by the school management. The result which was released on Wednesday afternoon was described as the worst ever in the history of BUK.

The aggrieved students who all appeared in black, shocked the university community at the new site campus with their outfits. They lamented that the school has treated them unfairly with the poor result despite their serious efforts.

According to the students who expressed their views said that, that were not the results they had toiled for because them at bayero university are known for hardworking which the university have been proud of over the years.
“We don’t have lazy bones among us. The school only wanted to jeopardize our efforts by toying with our exams results on the grounds that they want to reduce the number of students graduating with first class and second class upper grades”. Said a level 300 student of the mass communication department.

Giving a clearer picture of results, a member of the group said, in level 300 mass comm. Department where they have many students with four and three point grades in the previous results were suddenly shocked as only one student got four points and few were left at three and many got two points with carryovers respectively.

However, others who gave their comments said that they have also resolved to organize a joint prayer section among themselves to seek ALLAH’s divine intervention. And that they have received in with good faith to put in more efforts, as prayers and efforts are the only panacea to their problems.

Further more investigations revealed that some lecturers commended the efforts of the students. That it is the first in history of the institution where students will show their grievances in such a peaceful but mournful manner. And were further urged to always fight for their rights in a civilized and diplomatic manner like every responsible person should do.
However efforts to reach the dean students affairs proved abortive as he was not available at press time

The traffic congestion along Kofar Kabuga road in Gwale local government area, Kano state. Has been an issue of concern to everyone in the state, especially the users of the road.
The traffic holds up cover the areas between Kabuga through Jan block first and second gate, afforestation down to Rujiyaan Zaki. This has been a problem to the users of the road, due to the jam packing of vehicles which also affect pedestrians too.
Due to the long hours of hold up on the road, workers get to office very late, and this develops unfriendly working relationship between workers and their bosses.
On the other hand student are also affected with late coming, both the nursery, primary, secondary and high institutions that are located within and outside the area. For this reason most of the students miss their various lectures, and at times tests, which in turn affect their academic performance in school.

Also this leads to careless driving on the road, which has resulted to several losses of lives, due to reckless overtaking by drivers in an attempt to beat time. Pedestrians are also scared to cross or even work closes to the road. On Monday being the 21st, 2011 the rate of hold up on the road was outrageous. A user of the road named Nana, aged twenty complained that, she always spend hours standing beside the road before she could cross the, due to this she feel reluctant to run an errand across the road.

Mallam Garba Munir a business man age 45 said, he always reached the market very late because of the hold up and before he reached, he has missed many customers. He called on the governor of the Kano state, Engr Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to look in to the situation and proffer solution to it.

The people of Kano state plead for the expansion of the road, and also called the attention of the users of the road to be very careful while driving. They also pray for the soul of those who loss their lives, to rest in prefect peace amen.
