Untimely Death for Road Users‎

Written by:  Nasiru Garba  (SMS/10/MAC/00885)

Every government in the world claim the responsibility of protecting the lives and property of its citizens. The irony in Nigeria shows that road users are not in anyway assured of their safety, when you eventually look at the condition of the roads in Nigeria(federal highways) a person hardly travel with an open minded soul to reach his destination safe because the roads have over worked its status. All roads are subject to renewal after ten years. Take for example the case of Kano to Kaduna expressway, a lot of things contributed to accidents that results to the death of our dear citizens

1. Mismanagement by the authorities concern.
2. The age of the roads necessitate or call for renewals as it clock 20 years instead of 10 years officially
3.New bridges were created at that time when the road was dualized to reduced the intermittent lost of lives, the old bridges were not abandoned by the contractors, they are all put into use together with the new ones and now the old bridges claim more lives far more than the single lane express road. Most of them are on the verge to collapse in the mean time for example the bridge at Tamburawa along Zaria road  was exposed to such a danger very long time ago and the attention of the authorities concern were drawn to arrest the situation but till the time of this publication there was nothing done yet to put it right. We again call for the authority concern to immediately arrest or come to the rescue of the citizenry
