There is the need to use the new media to promote our culture and identity and not just to go to websites and download information and documents but also endeavour to upload content of our culture, a university Don. professor Abdallah Uba Adamu .said yesterday. He said this while  speaking at the award ceremony  for young journalist, organized by Deutsche Welle radio in collaboration with freedom radio and Bayero University.

According to him people browse different websites to download file, music videos and audios, applications and other information without bothering about uploading similar materials or content of our own people. He  advised the students present at the occasion to cultivate the habit of uploading pictures, music videos and audios of our local stars like the k boys in mass communication department and other Hausa music stars. This he said will help in promoting our culture and create an information and awareness of the kind of people we are and things we do.

Prof. Abdallah, emphasized that constant and incessant downloads of such foreign contents without reciprocated upload of our local materials will lead to us learning foreign culture and tradition including the negative aspect of them and that the outside world would not get to learn our cultural practice.

He finally advised students to be careful with the way they use information obtained from the internet as many are capable of eroding our culture. Earlier Dr Balarebe MaiKaba warned students to be aware cultural imperialism as they go on the web to source for material and other multimedia contents.
