THE MASS failure in BUK was a slap on the face of the
suppose growing educational system in Nigeria. As everybody waited with their
fingers crossed, the popular question students are asking is “an kafe?” meaning “has it been pasted?”
Rumors of all sorts flawed leading students to sleep with
one eye open; they would keep their eye on every notice board as they approach
their department or lecture venue. Days past and nothing, students were “dying”
in fear, boredom and tension. Some student didn’t know if their reading was too
low or enough for the second semester.
Finally, the long awaited results were pasted with the Department
of Arabic and Islamic studies first and other department followed. One very striking
occurrence was at the Department of Mass Communication when the level 300
students in the dept saw their results. The mass failure really hit them hard,
students dropped from 4.24 to 1.95 point with series of carry over. There was a
case of a student who lost his appetite and could not ear due to the sober
mood. They came to the decision that night to mourn their results, the next day
being Thursday the 17th of November 2011 which tagged “BLACK
THURSDAY” they were all seen wearing black clothing.
Even if few students were able to scale through they still
have to sit up for the oncoming second semester examinations and for the
unlucky ones the library has become their second lecture venue.
