The victim, a Traffic Warden, was taken unawares by his assailants, who rode on a motorcycle and stabbed him twice with a sharp object while he was directing traffic between 6 and 630pm.

The attackers are believed to be fans of an amateur football team in the state. It was equally gathered that their action may have been triggered by anger over the outcome of a match between the club they support and a visiting team from Niger State, which ended in a draw.

The football march was played between the Bida Lions of Niger State and One Touch of Kano State,
The attack was unprovoked as the victim was only performing his constitutional duties as a traffic policeman. It was a female police officer, who arrived at the scene, while the victim was still lying in a pool of his blood that alerted the police, who conveyed him to hospital.

The traffic warden died while receiving treatment at the Mallam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.
Meanwhile, in their traditional way, the police have already arrested 65 persons some of which are innocent in connection with the crime
